In Memoriam: Dhanashree Date Sensei, A Guiding Light and Pillar of our Patanjali Japan Foundation Community

Updated: Jul 2

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Dhanashree Date Sensei on May 26, 2024, in Pune, India.

Dhanashree Date Sensei, a founding member of PJF, served as a director and was the esteemed head of our teachers' department. Her contributions have been invaluable to our organisation.

A Vibrant Spirit and Tireless Leader

Dhanashree Date Sensei's vibrant energy was a beacon of positivity, illuminating our environment. Her pure soul, filled with kindness and wisdom, will always be remembered with deep respect and fondness.

We converted our daily morning pranayama special yoga session into a silent prayer, which will continue until June 21st, 2024.

Dhanashree sensei's contributions extended far beyond her leadership roles. She was a passionate teacher who inspired countless students on their yoga journeys. Her knowledge of yoga was vast, and her teaching style was both nurturing and empowering.

The Cornerstone of Our Practice

From the very foundation of PJF, Dhanashree Sensei played a key role in shaping our community.  She was a founding member, instrumental in setting the vision and guiding principles that continue to define us today. Her dedication extended to every aspect of our practice, including:

Managing Regular Yoga Classes: Dhanashree Sensei's expertise ensured the smooth operation of our regular yoga classes, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for yogis of all levels.

International Day of Yoga (IDY): We are particularly grateful for Sensei's support in establishing IDY celebrations within our community. In 2015, from the very first IDY, she played a key role in setting the foundation for what has become a cherished annual tradition. This year, our International Day of Yoga events were conducted as regular events rather than a big celebration. It was difficult for us to conduct them in her absence and we were reminded of how worthy her presence and support was.

Morning Pranayama Sessions: She also taught our daily morning pranayama session during the absence of Ashutosh sensei last year. Her guidance fostered a sense of peace and focus that resonated deeply with participants.

Active Presence in Meetings: Dhanashree Sensei’s wisdom and insights were invaluable in every meeting. Her collaborative spirit and thoughtful contributions helped shape the direction of our organisation.

A Celebration of Life

To celebrate her life and legacy, we will gather in Tokyo, Funabori at the VCC hall above ISKCON temple on July 21st, 2024 (Sunday) from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We invite all who knew and loved Dhanashree Sensei to join us in remembering her.

Dhanashree Date Sensei will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her dedication to yoga and her commitment to our community will continue to inspire us for years to come.
