7th Edition of Interactive Session organized by Patanjali Japan Foundation

Updated: Dec 24, 2020

Patanjali Japan Foundation (PJF) organized the 7th edition of its Monthly Interactive Session on December 20, 2020 on the topic ‘Sleep quality and Yoga Nidra’. The discussion was led by Mr. Ashutosh Singh (Chief Sewa Officer) with contributions by the in-house Yoga teacher, Ms. Suhani from Bharat/India.

1. Introduction and October 2020 activity report

In November, a total number of 114 unique Yogis participated in morning sessions which included 6 'Kesari'/Saffron belt Yogis, 18 'Shwet'/White belt Yogis and 90 'Hari'/Green belt Yogis.

2. Explanation of Sleep quality and Yoga Nidra

Suhani defines Yoga Nidra as a condition between sleep and awake state in which the body and mind are completely relaxed. It can also be called 'meditation of sleep'. It relaxes the noisy mind while releasing the tension from the entire body. This leads to better sleep quality. The method of Yoga Nidra might differ according to the different Yoga styles but the purpose remains the same which is to relax the body and mind. Suhani points out that Yoga Nidra is different from Meditation where focus remains to calm the mind from daily mundane activities by closing the eyes and reflecting upon oneself in a seated position.

3. Q&A

In the Q&A, questions on the benefits of Yoga Nidra and ability to sit in Sukhasana for a longer period were discussed.
