Kesari Wellness Advisory Council(KWAC)

The Kesari Wellness Advisory Council (KWAC) brings together experts from diverse fields to deepen the exploration of wellness knowledge and practices, with the aim of making them accessible and practical for everyone to incorporate into their everyday lives.

Leading this initiative is Yumi, Chairperson of KWAC, who brings nearly 20 years of experience as a pharmacist, along with extensive knowledge and experience across healthcare, food, yoga, Ayurveda, and other fields.

In this article, we share Yumi’s own words on the values that guide KWAC and her vision for making wellness a more accessible and meaningful part of everyday life. “Translating Wellness into Everyday Life”

For nearly 20 years, I have been involved in people’s health as a pharmacist. Along the way, I opened a café with the hope of creating a more open, welcoming space, closer to everyday life, where people could find opportunities to live more healthfully. I also discovered yoga as a way to connect with the mind and body. Through continued learning and practice, I met the people with whom I now share this journey.

Through studying and working across healthcare, food, yoga, Ayurveda, complementary and alternative medicine, and communication, I have come to understand that the choices that support a healthy life are different for everyone. What suits us can change depending on our culture, environment, age, daily rhythms, and what we value.

That is why I would like KWAC to be a place where experts from diverse fields bring together their knowledge and experience, respect different perspectives, and learn openly from one another.

What does traditional wisdom tell us? What does modern research reveal? What do we still not know? Can these practices be incorporated safely? And how can we apply this knowledge to our lives today?

By exploring these questions thoughtfully, without becoming fixed on any single approach, I hope we can translate expert knowledge into something people can understand and use in their everyday lives.

To me, wellness extends far beyond healthcare and physical health. It encompasses mental wellbeing, food, movement, sleep, relationships, work, and financial stability. It touches every part of how we live. I hope to share a broad range of choices that fit naturally into modern life and help people live well in ways that feel right for them.

I place particular importance on creating and protecting an environment where experts can exchange their views freely and respectfully, while maintaining their independence. Rather than seeking agreement on every issue, I want us to make room for different perspectives. By remaining independent of particular products, companies, or professional interests, and being transparent about conflicts of interest, I hope we can build a Council that people trust.

Traditional wisdom and modern science. Different cultures and areas of expertise.

Experts and local communities. Knowledge and everyday life.

I hope KWAC can serve as a bridge between them.

I want people to be able to reflect on how they and their families wish to live, consider what supports their wellbeing, and make informed choices with confidence. I hope these small, everyday choices can, over time, help build communities where generations support one another and contribute to a society responding to population ageing and declining birth rates.

From everyday life to local communities, and from there to Japan and the wider world, I hope to contribute, in whatever small way I can, to the development of societies where people can live healthy and fulfilling lives.
